Childhood obesity has steadily increased over the years, becoming a major health crisis that has more than doubled in children since the 1970s. Motivated by his own experience with obesity, Nature’s Grill co-founder, Dimitrios Verteouris, reated Knockout Obesity to help prevent childhood obesity. Established in 2013, the non-profit is dedicated to helping children develop physical fitness and nutrition habits that will promote healthy lifestyles and prevent obesity. Knockout Obesity’s signature program offers a three-pronged approach: Physical Fitness, Nutrition Education, and Capacity-Building. Watch our Brooklyn youth in action!
With generous private donations, Knockout Obesity piloted its innovative program model at The Boys’ Club of New York in 2013, then officially launched at Good Shepherd Services’ Miccio Cornerstone Center in 2014. Currently, Knockout Obesity is debuting its yearlong program with Live Light Live Right and CAMBA in East New York, Brooklyn. Last year, Knockout Obesity was the recipient of a $25,000 donation from Two-Time and Two Division Boxing World Champion and NABF Welterweight Champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi.
